I have taken what was arguably one of the most difficult decisions of my life.
I have been lucky: the big decisions in my life have been relatively easy; I had always wanted to do them. Even those decisions that turned out to be the wrong ones, were straightforward at the time of taking them. A friend quips: one makes the best judgements one is able to, viewed in the light available at the time. Believing that doesn’t help much when the fruit hits the fan, but it does wonders to soothe one’s self-reproach in the clean-up.
In the case of those few tough decisions that failed miserably, complications arose only in hindsight. The taking of them was easy. Looking back, it seems I missed the small print.
